Description

3M BEV140 is a high-flow under-sink filtration system for drinking, ice and cooking water in yacht galleys and crew areas. Its HF40 cartridge combines membrane and carbon filtration, with a 0.2-micron nominal rating and published service flow up to 2.1 GPM.

High-flow filtration for the galley

The 3M BEV140 supplies filtered water through the existing galley faucet or a separately selected drinking-water faucet. The system’s single-cartridge arrangement suits installations where a higher service flow is needed than a small dedicated-tap filter can supply.

Membrane and activated carbon treatment

The HF40 uses Integrated Membrane Pre-Activated Carbon Technology, combining a membrane with activated carbon. It reduces particulate, chlorine taste and odour and cysts. The original manufacturer sheet also reports up to 99.99% reduction of E. coli in laboratory testing; this is a specific test result, not a guarantee for untreated water. The bacteriostatic feature limits fouling of the media.

Installation and filter changes

Horizontal 3/8-inch FNPT inlet and outlet ports connect the head to the cold-water line. The valve-in-head arrangement shuts off and vents water during cartridge changes. A quarter-turn releases the enclosed cartridge without touching the media. Plan access beneath the filter for replacement, and check any adaptors supplied with your chosen Yacht-Mate connection option.

Maintenance and model choice

The HF40 is the replacement cartridge for BEV140. Its 25,000-gallon capacity does not override the service interval: replace at 12 months, rated capacity or sooner if flow noticeably falls. The BEV145 uses different media and should not be treated as the same specification.

Frequently asked questions

Can 3M BEV140 use my existing galley faucet?

Yes. That is an application listed by Yacht-Mate. The filter head has 3/8-inch FNPT ports, so check the faucet supply connection and any required adaptors. Keep total demand within the published service flow.

Is HF40 the correct replacement cartridge for 3M BEV140?

Yes. The manufacturer specifies HF40, part 5613303, for BEV140. HF45 belongs to BEV145 and has a different filtration specification. Match both the system and cartridge identification.

Do I have to shut off the main water supply to change a 3M BEV140 filter?

The valve-in-head design shuts off and vents the flow for cartridge replacement. Follow the filter-change instructions and confirm the head is functioning correctly before removing the cartridge.

Can I leave a 3M BEV140 cartridge fitted until 25,000 gallons have passed?

Not if the time or flow limit is reached first. The manufacturer specifies replacement every 12 months, at rated capacity, or sooner when flow noticeably reduces.

Does 3M BEV140’s bacteria inhibitor disinfect the yacht’s water tank?

No such tank-disinfection claim is made. The inhibitor is intended to reduce fouling within the cartridge media. Use BEV140 within the feed-water conditions in its instructions; the filter is not a substitute for managing tank-water quality.
