Our Story — Marine Water Treatment Expertise Built Over 30 Years
Yacht-Mate Products was founded in 2003 by Sandy Handrahan, who had spent the preceding decade building deep expertise in water treatment across commercial and marine sectors. Sandy began her career with Aqua Care, managing water treatment programs for national restaurant chains, before moving to Cuno, Inc. as Regional Manager — one of the industry's leading filtration companies.
What Sandy saw when she turned her attention to the marine market was a gap. The water treatment solutions available to yacht owners and captains were far behind what had long been standard in commercial and residential applications. She founded Yacht-Mate Products to close that gap — bringing professional-grade water treatment technology directly to the boating community for the first time.
More than 25 years later, that founding mission hasn't changed. Yacht-Mate Products remains independently owned and operated from Fort Lauderdale, and Sandy remains hands-on in the business. The company has grown into one of the most comprehensive marine water treatment suppliers in the United States — stocking products from globally recognised brands alongside Yacht-Mate's own engineered solutions, and serving customers from the Florida Keys to the Mediterranean.

Marine Watermakers & Desalination Systems
We supply and install reverse osmosis watermakers for recreational boats, motor yachts, sailing yachts, and superyachts. Whether you need a compact 12V DC unit for a cruising sailboat or a high-output system producing thousands of gallons per day for a charter vessel, we will specify, supply, and install the right solution. Full replacement filter and membrane kits are stocked in our Fort Lauderdale warehouse, and our service team covers South Florida.
Marine Water Softeners
Hard water is one of the most damaging and overlooked threats to onboard equipment. Our water softeners protect watermaker membranes, water heaters, boilers, shower fixtures, and plumbing throughout the vessel from limescale buildup. Available in portable and installed configurations, with commercial-scale systems for vessels 150 feet and over. Our range also includes heavy metal removal solutions for additional protection in areas with poor water quality.
Drinking Water Filtration Systems

Clean, great-tasting drinking water onboard should never be a compromise — and with the right system, it doesn't have to be.
UV Sterilizers & Silver Ion Water Treatment
The final step in a properly designed onboard water system is sterilization. We supply and install UV sterilizer units that eliminate bacteria, viruses, and microorganisms from your water supply before it reaches the tap. For vessels spending time in tropical waters, the Caribbean, or at marinas where source water quality is uncertain, UV sterilization is essential. Silver ion tank treatment products are also available for ongoing antimicrobial protection between fill-ups.
Air Purification & Odor Control
Persistent onboard odors from bilges, holding tanks, diesel fumes, and enclosed spaces are one of the most common complaints among boat owners. Yacht-Mate supplies hydroxyl generator technology and passive odor control products designed specifically for the marine environment — eliminating odors at the molecular level rather than masking them.
