Tecnicomar ECOmar S treats marine blackwater and greywater through an automatic chemical-physical process with flocculation and final post-treatment. Eight models provide 2,000 to 54,500 litres/day, with configurations for onboard wastewater installations and optional vacuum-system integration.

ECOmar S is Tecnicomar’s range of automatic marine sewage treatment plants for onboard blackwater and greywater. The range gives yacht engineers and installers a choice of eight treatment capacities and modular equipment layouts for fitting a system to the vessel’s wastewater arrangement.
How ECOmar S treats wastewater
Wastewater passes through a chemical-physical batch treatment and flocculation process, followed by post-treatment. The manufacturer’s flow diagram identifies macerating and dosing, filtration and UV sterilization. The process is designed for marine installations exposed to temperature changes, humidity and vibration.
Selecting the model and installation
Use the vessel’s required daily treatment capacity and tank arrangement when specifying the system. Submit the number of crew and guests, toilet type, tank details, available electrical supply and existing pipe sizes using the Vessel Specs Form. Remote monitoring and integration with onboard controls are available.

Models 20 S to 145 S list 230 VAC single-phase / 400 VAC three-phase supply. Models 230 S to 545 S list 400 VAC three-phase. Other voltages are available on request. Dimensions above cover the main treatment unit only. Additional treatment stations and the complete installation layout must be allowed for. Polypropylene main units are available for 20 S, 32 S and 45 S.
Operation, servicing and options
Operation is automatic. Available options include a 7-inch LCD touchscreen remote, CDMAR-2 remote control, onboard PC control and an air purifier. Use the supplied model manual for dosing, consumables and service procedures. The parts drawings and Spare Parts Request tab help identify replacement equipment by installed pump and serial number.
Certification and discharge planning
Tecnicomar documents ECOmar S under IMO Resolution MEPC.227(64), including section 4.2 for Special Areas. Obtain the certificate for the selected model and supplied configuration. Treatment-system certification is not an unrestricted permission to discharge. Confirm the vessel’s operating requirements before specifying the discharge arrangement.
Frequently asked questions
Can ECOmar S work with my yacht’s vacuum toilets and separate wastewater tanks?
Yes. ECOmar S supports vacuum toilet systems, and multi-tank control is available on request. Include the blackwater and greywater tank arrangement, toilet system and requested treatment capacity in the Vessel Specs Form so the installation can be specified.
Will an ECOmar 20 S installation fit within its 0.6 x 0.5 x 0.7 m main-unit dimensions?
The main unit is only part of the installation. The 20 S also has separate treatment equipment. Its published filtration station measures 0.6 x 0.3 x 1.1 m and its sterilization unit 0.4 x 0.2 x 0.9 m. Use the complete arrangement drawing for installation planning.
Can ECOmar S be started after a period without wastewater treatment?
Tecnicomar describes ECOmar S as having quick startup without biological stabilization time. Its chemical-physical batch process does not require the startup period associated with establishing a biological treatment culture. Follow the supplied operating instructions when returning a particular installation to service.
Does ECOmar S eliminate the need to plan for sludge handling?
The manufacturer’s ECOmar S flow diagram includes a sludge stream. Include that stream in the installation design and obtain the sludge-handling arrangement for the selected system. Do not specify a retrofit on the assumption that no sludge handling is needed.
Can I use an older ECOmar approval for an ECOmar S replacement?
Match the approval to the supplied equipment. Tecnicomar identifies the ECOmar S range with MEPC.227(64), including section 4.2. Older ECOmar models have a separate certification history. Request the selected model’s current certificate and approved configuration with the quotation.
